They took my name and dressed me in silence. They said 'You were a queen!'
I said, 'I was a human.'

Through her powerful performance as Hecuba, Arwa Omaren connects the ancient story of Troy with her personal reality of displacement. This poignant play explores the life of a double refugee, navigating conflict in Syria and homelessness in the UK, while highlighting the strength, truth, and dark humour that define the lived experience of women refugees today.

En-Scripted: Syrian Refugee Comedy

A dark comedy drama highlighting life as a displaced Syrian person

Our pilot 'En-Scripted' is a sharp Syrian black comedy born from the unique challenges of COVID-19. Much like the BBC's 'Staged' with David Tennant and Michael Sheen, this production utilizes remote technology to bridge distances and create art in isolation. Created by and for Syrian refugees, the project transforms the harsh realities of exile into a series of witty digital plays and sketch shows. By training participants as both writers and performers, we provide a vital creative outlet for those displaced by the decade-long conflict.
Employing a sensitive yet darkly humorous tone, 'En-Scripted' allows asylum seekers to reclaim their agency while navigating the complexities of life in limbo. This work serves as more than entertainment; it is a therapeutic platform for storytelling that turns the isolation of the pandemic and the struggle of displacement into a shared, powerful narrative of resilience.

This six-part radio drama was co-produced by Charlotte Eagar and inspired by the Trojan Women Project to amplify the voices of Syrian refugees in Jordan’s Zaatari camp through therapeutic performance. By exploring themes of displacement and resilience, the production reached over 35 million listeners across the Middle East to support refugee empowerment.
